Dear citizen,

The new method of waste collection arrives in the Fifth District. After the Sixth in March 2025 and the Seventh, started back in 2020 with a group of about 20,000 Verona users, the change now concerns not only the neighborhoods of the area that still have open bins but also the zones where door-to-door collection is already active, with a view to unifying the area under a single disposal system. Everything you need to know is detailed in this booklet, which I invite you to read by immediately identifying your residential area among the colored areas, so as to better understand the specific information of each neighborhood. Summarizing, the current open bins will gradually be replaced by new controlled-access containers, larger and suitable to receive the type of waste to which they are dedicated. Openable by card or application, they will accept organics and residual waste. The collection of plastics/metals and paper will instead be door-to-door. For those already used to separating in this way, the changes are minimal but still substantial: controlled-access bins for organics and residual waste will arrive, and door-to-door for paper and plastics/metals will continue as per the calendar specified below. The new containers can be opened via a card issued free of charge and the Amia app. Thanks to a recent update of the software used by AMIA for the management of the service, today it is possible to obtain your credentials from your phone in just a few simple steps, without going to the offices. The “AMIA Verona” app is downloaded as always from the official stores (App Store or Google Play Store) and, on first access, you are asked to enter the username, composed of your taxpayer code and the user code, and the password, which corresponds to your tax code (details on page 4). Easier done than said. The invitation, therefore, is to download the application right away as a very useful and practical tool not only to unlock the bins for the disposal of your waste but also to send reports and receive service updates and news in real time.

The other, complementary, way to open the new containers is via card, distributed in the eco-counters (pages 12, 13, 23). The change in waste disposal will involve about 200,000 inhabitants over the next two years. An epoch-making and at the same time necessary challenge that has the goal of removing Verona from the bottom place in Veneto in waste management: a last place that, in light of the new pricing required by the Region, becomes penalizing not only from the environmental point of view but also economic for each user. This is a change – carried out by the Municipality of Verona and Amia – that is necessary for the environmental well-being of our territory where, at the city level, the average separate collection rate is still just above 50% and drops steeply to 40% in the areas where there are open-access bins. The result to aim for in the near future is 65% separate collection: a fundamental step that will also free up more resources to be allocated to the cleaning of neighborhoods, to the advantage of the whole territory. The change has begun and, now, let’s shift gears: it is up to all of us to make the difference. Literally. To activate a change on a large scale like this is not easy but it is a challenge that we face with determination, convinced of the importance of a clear and decisive step forward in favor of the environment and services to citizens. For each of us, the company first but also each person, the duty and the honor to do our part: implementing services on one side, changing small daily gestures on the other. In the following pages, together with the information on how to separate waste correctly, you will also find useful advice to reduce the use of natural resources in our usual activities: from the consumption of local and seasonal products to shopping with lower environmental impact.

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR EMBRACING A PATH TO BE TAKEN TOGETHER, TOWARDS GREATER RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.

The President Amia
