The change in separate waste collection now continues with the First District, for the first time with partly different methods compared to the rest of the territory. Given the great concentration of commercial establishments in the area and the strong tourist pressure, in the central neighborhoods the door-to-door collection of plastic/metals and paper/cardboard is not foreseen, but there will be controlled-access bins also for these types of waste. A dedicated collection, partly already started in past months, has instead been planned for the commercial activities of the Adige Loop (Ansa Adige). Outside the Adige Loop (Extra Ansa Adige), instead, there will be a dedicated service for non-domestic users that produce a lot of organic waste or have particular needs, while the others will dispose at the new bins: to this end, the bins for organic and dry residual waste will automatically recognize the credentials associated with commercial activities, automatically unlocking the wider opening.

We will proceed in phases. From June, the new bins will gradually arrive in the neighborhoods of the first district outside the Adige Loop, and therefore in San Zeno, San Bernardino, Cittadella (Valverde, Pontiere), Veronetta (San Paolo, Veronetta, Santo Stefano). After the summer, it will be the turn of the ancient city, the area inside the Adige Loop. The new containers can be opened by means of a card issued free of charge and the Amia app. Thanks to an update of the software used by AMIA for service management, it is possible to obtain one’s credentials from the mobile phone in a few simple steps, without going to the offices. The details are on page 3, but it is easier to do than to say. The invitation, therefore, is to download the application immediately as a very useful and practical tool not only to unlock the bins for the disposal of one’s waste but also to forward reports and receive updates and service news in real time.

The other, complementary, way to open the new containers is by card, distributed at the temporary Eco-counters open in the territory (page 11). All citizens and merchants of the first district, both Extra and Ansa Adige, are called to collect credentials and card. Everything that is useful to know is detailed in this booklet, which we invite you to read, identifying immediately the most useful information for you.

The change in waste disposal has already involved more than half of the citizenry and at the end of the operation, by the first months of 2027, it will have reached about 200,000 inhabitants.

An epoch-making and at the same time necessary challenge that has the goal of removing Verona from being the worst in Veneto in waste management. The percentage of separate waste collection in the city has jumped from a stable 53% (this is the average of separate waste collection in the last 10 years) to 57.4% in 2024, the latest official consolidated data. And the first estimates for 2025, which will be validated and communicated by Arpav in the coming months, mark a further, considerable increase. These are data that make us look optimistically at the change underway: consider that even just one percentage point more means 600 fewer tonnes of waste that end up straight in landfill, more than 2 fewer trucks every week.

At the same time, these are numbers that make us understand how much work there is still to do. The percentage of separate waste collection in the areas where the bins are still open does not exceed 40%. And in light of the new tariff system desired by the Region, separate waste collection percentages below 65% are penalizing not only from an environmental but also an economic point of view: reaching this threshold is therefore a fundamental step that will also allow more resources to be freed up for the cleaning of the neighborhoods, to the benefit of the entire territory. The change is therefore well underway and now it is up to all of us to make the difference.

Literally. Activating a large-scale change like this is not easy but it is a challenge that we face with determination, convinced of the importance of a clear and decisive change of pace in favor of the environment and services to citizens. To each of us, the company first of all but also each individual person, the burden and the honor of doing our part: implementing services on the one hand, modifying small daily gestures on the other.

In the next pages, alongside the information on how to correctly separate waste, you will also find useful tips for reducing the use of natural resources in our usual activities: from the consumption of local and seasonal products to shopping with less environmental impact.

WE THANK YOU FROM NOW ON FOR JOINING A JOURNEY TO BE MADE TOGETHER, TOWARDS GREATER RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.
